SUMMARY:Community Organizing for Deep Democracy Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Are you serious about taking back your community from corp
 orations?\n\nThis in-depth workshop, we help you envision grassroots d
 emocratic solutions to problems facing your community. Legal history, 
 case studies, and forward-looking strategies are offered to inspire yo
 ur action plan.\n\nThis event is tailored to meet the needs of the par
 ticipants based on pre-event feedback. This event is open to participa
 nts from all over the country.\n\nThis full weekend workshop helps par
 ticipants effectively organize in their own communities to reclaim cit
 izen sovereignty and will offer tangible strategies for actions that w
 e can collectively take to get our democracy back from corporations. T
 his three-day intensive workshop will challenge the deep assumptions t
 hat we all hold about what it means to live in a democracy and what th
 e proper role of the corporation is. We draw on history as well as cur
 rent\nevents to illustrate the changing role of the corporation over t
 ime and how seriously our past people’s struggles have taken the con
 cept of democracy.\n\nDeep Democracy Retreats are right for you if you
  are:\n★ An activist, leader, organizer, trainer, or elected officia
 l engaged in issues of economic, environmental or social justice in yo
 ur community;\n★ An educator, activist, organizer, trainer, or elect
 ed official seeking to improve your understanding of the history of co
 rporate power and more effective strategies for resistance.\n\nBy the 
 end of the weekend participants will have a background on how corporat
 e leaders and current judicial interpretations of the law are preventi
 ng us from defining our own communities.\n\nParticipants receive the h
 istory, analysis, networks, and legal and educational strategies to mo
 re successfully organize for local democracy in their communities.\n\n
