"Story-Based Strategy" is a framework that places storytelling at the center of social change strategy. This messaging approach stems from the recognition that humans understand the world and their role in it through stories. We tell stories through our rituals, myths, customs, words, symbols, and ideas.

This interactive workshop provides an introduction to tools and case studies as well as discussion and tools to craft more effective social change stories, challenge assumptions, intervene in prevailing cultural narratives, reach a broader audience with your message, and change the story around your issue.

This workshop will help participants learn:
· How to assess the worldviews, models and frames of yourself and others.
· How to effectively adapt ideas, values, etc. to the worldviews, models and frames of others.
· How to effectively use metaphors and stories to communicate ideas.

Workshop participants should leave with:
· An understanding of the importance of presenting ideas, opinions, facts, etc. with attention to the worldviews, frames and models of their “audience.”
· An understanding of the concepts of worldview, narrative-power analysis, story-based strategy, frames, models, and metaphors in thinking and language.
· Beginning skills at effectively using frames, models, metaphors and stories in political discourse.
· A plan for continued practice using these skills.

Pre-registration is required for attendance as space is limited. To register or find out more please contact Democracy Unlimited: (707) 269-0984 or http://www.duhc.org.
